Gold Coast Transit (GCT) is pleased to provide you with bike racks on every one of our fixed-route buses. You can ride the bus to your destination and your bike rides for free! Each bike rack holds three bikes and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Caution should be taken when loading and unloading your bicycle.

As of May 8th, GCTD is now allowing foldable bikes, e-bikes, foldable e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-self balancing boards on buses.

Please note the following:

  • All personal e-devices MUST have sealed lithium-ion batteries (NO CAR BATTERIES, NO HOMEMADE BIKES/SCOOTERS).
  • NO gas-powered bikes allowed.
  • Non-foldable e-bikes allowed in bike rack.
  • Foldable bikes, e-bikes, foldable e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-self balancing boards CAN be brought on-board if folded, secured, and kept out of the aisle.

GCT is not responsible for any damage that may be caused while your bike is being loaded/unloaded or while it is in the rack.

How To Load/Unload Your Bike

Loading Your Bike

Loading Instructions

  1. Loose Items

Loose items that could come off your bike while the bus is in motion should be removed before the bus arrives at your stop. Take these items with you inside the bus. Avoid anything strapped to the bike that will add weight (large baskets, bike luggage), etc).

  2. Notify The Driver

Notify the bus driver before loading a bike.

  3. Beware of Traffic

Load and unload bikes from the side of the bus nearest the curb. Never load the bike from the street side with oncoming traffic.

  4. Lower Rack

To lower the rack, grasp and squeeze the handle with one hand while supporting the bike with your other hand. Slowly lower the rack.

  5. Place Bike on Rack

Lift the bike into the rack, placing the wheels in the wheel wells. The first bike loaded should be placed in the position closest to the bus. The bike’s front wheel is in the proper position when it is facing the support arm.

  6. Secure Bike

Your bike is secured with the support arm.

    • Pull the handle of the support arm out, then lift it up and over the bike’s front tire.
    • Release the handle so that it rests on the tire.
    • Your bike is now secure and you can board the bus.

Unloading Your Bike

Unloading Instructions

To remove your bike from the rack, simply reverse the three steps listed above. It makes no difference which position your bike is in. You can easily remove your bike from the rear position even if another bike is in the front position.

  1. Notify The Driver

Exit the bus from the front door and advise the bus driver that you will be unloading a bike.

  2. Pull The Handle

Pull the support arm handle out and lower it down over the bike’s front tire.

  3. Beware of Traffic

Load and unload bikes from the side of the bus nearest the curb.

  4. Lift The Bike

Lift the bike out of the rack.

  5. Put Empty Rack Back

Return empty racks to the upright position and you’re done!
