CITY OF OXNARD ANNOUNCES NEW BUS SERVICE TO CONNECT THE OXNARD AIRPORT, MEXICAN CONSULATE AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS OF EAST OXNARD

The City of Oxnard has approved new bus service for Gold Coast Transit effective Monday, June 14, 2010. The new Route 19 will serve central Oxnard and was developed with feedback from the community and riders of the current Route 18B tripper service. Route 19 will run weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will provide needed transportation to some of Oxnard’s most popular destinations and large employers.

The new Route 19 will have stops at the Oxnard Transportation Center, Oxnard Airport, Mexican Consulate, and St. John’s Regional Medical Center. The route will also offer stops in the industrial area of Lombard Street and Eastman Avenue, reaching large employers such as Raypak, Goodwill and ETS Express. Students will also be provided service to Soria Elementary, Oxnard High and Pacifica High Schools.

“Goodwill, and the entire industrial area around us, has not had bus service which made it much harder for us to serve our clients. The closest bus stop was almost a mile away, making it difficult and inconvenient to use public transit,“ says Bruce Wilroy of Goodwill Industries.

“Now with the Route 19 service, it will be much easier for our organization to serve many more people- particularly those with disabilities. Plus, Route 19 will benefit our 30 warehouse workers and thousands of workers in this area by giving them an dependable ride to and from work. Recently, a bus came out to our area for a demonstration run, and workers from surrounding businesses came outside to view the bus and began to clap. That says a lot about how much this area wants and needs this new bus service.”

Due to the new school service that Route 19 offers, the current school booster service, Route 18B, will be discontinued at the end of the 2009 - 2010 school year.

Schedule and map information for Route 19 can be obtained by calling 805-487-4222 during regular business hours or found online at www.goldcoasttransit.org.

Gold Coast Transit is a joint powers authority governed by a Board of Directors made up of an elected official from each member jurisdiction – the Cities of Oxnard, Ventura, Port Hueneme and Ojai and the County of Ventura.
