Gold Coast Transit and City Corps–Ventura Team Up for Transit Discovery Day on January 10, 2009
Gold Coast Transit is honored to be working with City Corps-Ventura to provide learning and discovery options for City Corps members who will learn about the City of Ventura and many of the different major destinations throughout the City by riding Gold Coast Transit buses while participating in a scavenger hunt.
On Saturday, January 10, 2009, clues about different locations and activities will be distributed to teams of City Corps students who will utilize Gold Coast Transit buses exclusively to travel throughout the city to find the destinations suggested by the clues. It is anticipated that the students will visit governmental, educational, cultural and retail locations along bus routes throughout the City, with the Ventura Harbor being the final destination. At the Harbor, City Corps members will enjoy paddle boats and other recreational activities before dining at The Greek Restaurant at Ventura Harbor Village.
“We are excited to be able to team up with Gold Coast Transit to take advantage of their regularly scheduled bus service throughout the City of Ventura to allow the City Corps kids to learn more about their city and the transit system while having a fun experience” said Lynn Mikelatos, of The Greek Restaurant and a member of the City Corps Ventura Advisory Board.
Steve Brown of Gold Coast Transit likened this scavenger hunt to very successful events that have been held in major cities throughout the country in the past few years utilizing transit as the only mode of transportation allowed. “It will be fun and educational to conduct this scavenger hunt here in our service area, which we hope will become a regular event for us in all of our member jurisdictions as we continue to expand our service and provide more travel options for residents of western Ventura County.”
