Gold Coast Transit Begins Selling 10-Ride Transit Tickets in Vending Machines

Oxnard, CA – Gold Coast Transit (GCT) is implementing a program to sell transit fares in vending machines.   The first transit fare vending machines dispense 10-ride tickets and were unveiled last week at the Ventura County Government Center.

Many employees of Ventura County and Superior Court employees ride the bus to work.  Previously, employees at the sprawling Government Center site could only purchase transit passes and multi-ride fares off-site, with the closest outlet a few blocks away.  “One of the most common requests from people who work or have business at the Ventura County Government Center or the Superior Court has been to make it easier to obtain transit fares,” said Deborah Linehan, GCT’s General Manager.

The vending machine slots are in existing machines that have been upgraded to accept credit cards and dispense tickets.  The slots are being donated by Canteen Corporation, which is foregoing profit from potential sale of vending items.  Ventura County is also foregoing commission from the use of those slots.  Gold Coast Transit pays the transaction fee on credit card usage.

One of the vending machines dispensing 10-ride tickets is located at the Hall of Administration near the snack bar.  The other is in the Hall of Justice near the jury assembly room.   It is hoped that jurors and others with business at the Superior Court will purchase bus tickets from the vending machines.

“We’re trying to make using transit as easy as possible for those who want to ‘live green’ and minimize their impact on the environment,” said Kathy Connell, a Ventura County employee and member of the GCT Technical Advisory Committee.

For a list of other places to buy 10-ride tickets and all GCT fares or for more information about any route or schedule, go to www.goldcoasttransit.org or contact the GCT Customer Service Center at 487-4222 or 643-3158, Monday through Friday, 7:00A – 7:00P.

GCT is a joint powers transit agency governed by a Board of Directors made up of an elected official from each member jurisdiction – Cities of Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Ventura and the County of Ventura.
