November 18, 2010 - Gold Coast Transit (GCT) is pleased to announce the installation of newly designed, easy-to-use, way-finding information panels at 275 bus stops strategically placed along highly traveled streets or “Transit Corridors” within Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Ojai.
The new panels, designed by CHK America, a company specializing in the visual communication of transportation data, feature color-coded bus route diagrams and corresponding schedule information. The panels also display cumulative travel times for each route, showing busy passengers how much time they will spend on the bus - a much-valued benefit.
“Our system captures a customer’s attention within eight seconds,” states Rick Wood, President and CEO of CHK America. “Studies show, that’s the maximum amount of time a person is willing to invest to gather their travel information. If an information tool cannot prove it’s usability within this crucial eight second window, it has failed.”
The new passenger information displays bring European Best Practice Standards to GCT customers. GCT joins an elite group of CHK-clients who have adopted these best practices, including London Transport, Baltimore and Washington DC. Closer to home, many Southern California transit agencies also utilize this unique passenger information system creating, in essence, a Southern California Transit Corridor that consistently communicates passenger information to riders from Santa Barbara to Ventura, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
“The new panels make transit information more accessible and easier for our customers to plan their trips,” states Steve Brown, General Manager for Gold Coast Transit. “We also believe this new way of portraying transit travel information will encourage more people to use Gold Coast Transit,” Brown continued.
